The St Luke's Educational Services Unit (ESU) offers flexible learning options, providing an alternative setting for young people aged between 12 to 17 years, particularly those who are unable to attend mainstream school due to extreme behavioural issues.
The ESU offers a holistic approach, engaging parents, families and young people in education while acknowledging that while students face 'barriers', the focus isn't on the 'difficulties' but instead on a 'strengths-based' style of teaching and learning.
As part of St Luke's Child Youth & Family Services, the ESU works in conjunction with mainstream secondary and senior secondary colleges and special schools in its provision of learning programs. Young people who are involved in ESU can be referred through Out of Home Care (OoHc), young people on statutory orders (DHS), young people involved with intensive case management (ICMS) plus placement prevention and family services.
